Darts star Ricky Evans has opened up on an embarrassing toilet malfunction which caused him to play a final with no pants on. ‘Rapid Ricky’ reached the final of the Dutch Darts Championship in 2018, but was forced to go commando for three games.

Evans beat Jan Dekker, Steve West, William James O’Connor, Joe Cullen and Ritchie Edhouse en route to the final. He went on to lose 8-5 to Ian White, although, thankfully for him, the wardrobe mishap remained completely under the radar.

Now, Evans has opened up to talkSPORT on his embarrassing incident in the Netherlands eight years ago. The Kettering-born Darts star has admitted his embarrassment at recalling the story which occurred after eating out the night before.

He said: “This is the worst time to tell this story, but I’m gonna tell you it. I got to a final once on the European Tour in Maastricht.

“I played Ian White. I played with no pants on.

“I don’t really wanna go into detail now, we had food and I didn’t really help myself.

“I shouldn’t have done what I did and I had no spares, so I took them off, chucked them in the bin, and I played the next three games without my boxers, and I don’t know why I told you this. I’m regretting this right now.”

Evans was then asked what he ate for it to happen. He replied: “I don’t know.

“I remember driving home, and I think it might have been a McDonald’s.

“I don’t know what they were, but maybe the adrenaline or the pressure of winning a game came down and I thought it was safe, and it backfired.”

Evans was then questioned about what it was like playing with no pants. The 35-year-old said: “It was brilliant, fantastic, freeing, a bit of air.

“I remember at the time, one of the games, the zip wasn’t going up, and I thought ‘this is just what I need’.

“I remember the players I beat as well. I’m sure I beat Joe Cullen or Willie O’Connor again.”
