A married teacher has confessed to having sex with a 16-year-old pupil – including sick encounters in a classroom cupboard and even in school bushes, according to court documents.
Madeline Gregory, who also served as a church youth leader, was arrested Monday outside her school Sprague High School in Washington state – with both she and the boy admitting to the grim relationship, according to court records obtained by the Spokesman-Review.
The boy’s mum had initially contacted police the day after Valentine’s Day after discovering twisted messages on her son’s phone – allegedly including one from the obsessed 29-year-old teacher pleading “I don’t want to lose you” when the boy attempted to end things.
Officers examined surveillance footage that revealed Gregory – who was also known as Madeline Scoon – routinely remaining behind with the boy after hours, despite him having good grades, the records showed. They were spotted entering a classroom cupboard for up to 45 minutes, where both confessed to having sexual intercourse, according to the documents.
They also acknowledged kissing and groping each other in a gym cupboard – as well as in bushes near the school’s tennis courts, the papers stated. The boy had been Gregory’s pupil for two years, even becoming her PE assistant, but began spending increased time with her in September, his mum told investigators.
They spent time together after school – even at weekends, according to the mum, who became suspicious at her son frantically texting someone late into the evening. Those messages revealed that the teacher confided in the young teenager about marital troubles, mentioning a potential divorce, according to texts viewed by the Spokesman-Review.
They also met up away from school premises. In December, they met at an Airway Heights Walmart car park before departing together in her vehicle, returning to the shop more than two hours later, according to the documents.
Gregory allegedly instructed the boy not to date anyone from within Sprague – a small city with fewer than 600 residents. The boy told police he attempted to end the relationship but claimed Gregory threatened to take her own life.
Gregory appeared in Lincoln County District Court on Tuesday on suspicion of sexual misconduct with a minor and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. Her bail is $50,000 and she has been ordered not to have any contact with children, KHQ reported. Raymond Leaver, headteacher of the Sprague The School District stated that they are taking the allegations “extremely seriously” and are cooperating with the police.
