The odd pyramid-like structure found in the largest canyon network in the solar system has sparked theories the Red planet was once inhabited by an ancient civilisation
NASA’s discovery of a huge pyramid like-structure located on Mars has caused theories to erupt that the massive megastructure could have been built by an ancient alien civilization.
Images of the three sided object has caused a storm on the internet this week as many theorists have pointed to the phenomenon on the Red planet as proof ETs may have once inhabited it. It was first snapped using NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) in 2001 by researcher Keith Laney.
Laney was initially scanning imagery for unusual structures when he stumbled across the puzzling pyramid. He said at the time: “Were this found anywhere on Earth, we’d surely be digging into it.”
Recently the footage of the pyramid was shared in an award-winning documentary on the history and catastrophes which lead to the “death of Mars” by filmmaker Brian Dobbs.
Dobbs claimed: “On Mars, there is a three-sided pyramid the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.” Despite NASA’s find Dobbs has admitted the structure alone does not prove ancient alien life once inhabited the planet.
The cosmic phenomenon was located in the western region of Candor Chasma, Mars. The region is found inside the largest canyon network in the solar system known as the Valles Marineris.
The staggering system is around 10 times longer, 20 times wider, and 5 times deeper than Earth’s Grand Canyon. Due to the geography of the region the landscape is known for its steep cliffs, landslides and layered rock formations. Researcher George Haas previously explained why the pyramid had garnered attention due to its shape.
The Mars researcher explained: “You don’t have to be a geologist to know the difference between a rock and a sculpture, something that’s geometric.”
Co-authoring a research paper alongside other investigators Haas stated: “The structural form of this three-sided pyramid observed within the western region of Candor Chasma is real and exhibits a level of geometry and symmetry that supports a high probability of artificial origins.”
Laney – the first space boffin to stumble across the phenomena – has responded to Haas’s findings and said that the pyramid is ”most definitely artificial.”
