Ras Laffan oil refinery in Qatar has reportedly come under attack in an Iranian missile strike. “Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the resulting fires, as extensive damage has been caused,” QatarEnergy posted on social media.

All staff members are accounted for, and there are currently no casualties, the statement said. Ras Laffan houses a refinery that Iranian state media had earlier declared was a target and should be evacuated. The oil refinery is one of the world’s leading LNG production sites, coming under scrutiny after Iran issued threats of retaliation.

Several sites in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were hit just hours after Iran threatened attacks on energy facilities across the Middle East in response to an Israeli strike early on Wednesday.

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed that civil defence teams are responding to a fire in Ras Laffan, a major oil-processing site around 50 miles north of Doha.

QatarEnergy, the country’s state-owned petroleum company – has confirmed that missiles have struck Ras Laffan Industrial City this evening.
