Gabriel Byrne – who is considered among the greatest actors to have never received an Oscar nomination – was seen on a rare outing.

The 75-year-old actor enjoyed a solo outing in New York City on Thursday.

He bundled up for the chilly day in the Big Apple in a large blue coat zipped up all of the way.

Byrne also donned a pair of navy blue trousers as he walked around in a pair of black Salomon sneakers.

The talented actor accessorized with a burgundy knit beanie and a backpack while out in Manhattan.

Byrne is an incredible actor who many would be shocked to find has yet to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Many feel like his best chance to be nominated was for his supporting role as Keaton in 1995 flick The Usual Suspects.

The film featured a star-studded cast including Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Spacey, Kevin Pollack, Chazz Palminteri, Giancarlo Esposito, Stephen Baldwin, and Suzy Amis

It is centered around a sole survivor of a shoot-out who tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police line-up. 

The Bryan Singer directed film earned two Oscar wins including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Spacey and Best Original Screenplay for Christopher McQuarrie.

He also starred in 1990’s Miller’s Crossing which was one of the early projects from iconic filmmaking brother duo Ethan and Joel Coen.

Byrne played the lead Tom Reagan who was an advisor to a Prohibition-era crime boss who tries to keep peace between warring mobs but ends up getting caught in divided loyalties.

John Turturro, Marcia Gay Harden, Albert Finney, and Jon Polito also starred in the flick.

Byrne was an executive producer on 1993 biographical crime drama In the Name Of The Father which earned seven Oscar nominations.

The Irish star has also starred in Defence of the Realm (1986), Lionheart (1987), Little Women (1994), Dead Man (1995), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), Enemy of the State (1998), End of Days (1999), Stigmata (1999), Vanity Fair (2004), The 33 (2015), and Hereditary (2018).

His most recent role was in John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas titled Ballerina was released last year.

Despite never earning an Oscar nomination, on the television side he has earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for his role in HBO series In Treatment (2008 – 2011).

Other notable television roles have included: Vikings (2013), Maniac (2018), and War of the Worlds (2019–2022).

Byrne is also an accomplished theater actor as he has earned two nominations for the Tony Award in the Best Actor in a Play category for his roles in A Moon for the Misbegotten (2000) and Long Day’s Journey into the Night (2016).

Byrne became a father for the third time at 67 as he welcomed his first child with younger wife Hannah Beth King in 2017. 

The two had married in a low-key ceremony at Ballymaloe House in Cork in the summer of 2014. 

Gabriel was previously married to actress Ellen Barkin, but the pair amicably divorced in 1999, after welcoming two children – Jack, 36, and Romy, 33.
