WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: Sean Jefferson was convicted of murdering his five-week-old daughter Darcy-Leigh Jefferson after she died from a catastrophic brain injury and suffered 47 rib fractures
A wicked dad is due to be sentenced for the murder of his own tiny five-week-old baby daughter after he inflicted 47 fractures upon her in a despicable campaign of abuse, while the mother did practically nothing.
Evil Sean Jefferson was found guilty of murdering baby Darcy-Leigh Jefferson on Monday following an eight-week trial at Stafford Crown Court. The 35-year-old monster from Walsall had continuously subjected his daughter to physical abuse throughout her short life.
She died from a ‘catastrophic’ brain injury, which medical experts said was caused by either ‘violently’ shaking her or striking her head against a surface. Darcy – who weighed just 4lbs when she was born prematurely at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield on February 20, 2022 – had 47 rib fractures when she died.
The jury heard how this was likely caused by her chest being forcefully ‘squeezed’. Her mother, Amy Leigh Clark, 34, of Enots Close, Lichfield, was found guilty of causing/allowing the death of a child.
The court heard how paramedics had rushed to Darcy’s home in Burntwood on Mother’s Day in 2022 after the tot collapsed. Jefferson and Clark were both arrested the following day.
Tragically, Darcy died in hospital two days later on March 29. Her parents were charged over her death in May 2025, following an extensive police investigation. Body-cam footage has now been released showing the moment the pair were both arrested with Jefferson exclaiming: “Oh my f****** god.” The vile abuser can be seen moaning about how tight his handcuffs were before threatening to report two police officers for “hurting his hands.”
As he was restrained, Jefferson says: “You said you weren’t going to handcuff me, you’re a jobsworth mate. That’s a bit tight, that is mate. Look at that, see that? That’s very tight. Can you please loose it?”
The officer tells him to “stay still then”, only for Jefferson to demand his badge number and say: “I’m putting in a complaint about you. Simple, done. That’s very tight. Can you please loose it? You’re hurting my hand, mate.”
He’s told: “Calm down mate” as he demands: “Take it off then, hurry up. I want your name and badge number, you’re abusing your rights now, mate. Simple. What is it, you getting a bit scared? It’s disgusting.”
Another officer explains he was getting the key to loosen the cuffs and Jefferson replies “I’m gonna report you as well. I’m not going to let it go either.”
Raising his voice, Jefferson says: “Stop asking silly questions. You’re holding me tight. This geezer is making me angry. I don’t like his attitude. You’re squeezing them, geezer. It’s dented my arm.”
The other officer says: “He isn’t squeezing them. They’ve been locked.” Police revealed Darcy’s brain injury was “not an isolated” attack and that she had endured repeated assaults. Jefferson was also found guilty of causing/allowing the death of a child and two counts of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald of Staffordshire Police said: “Today’s verdict concludes a profoundly distressing case involving the murder of five-week-old Darcy.
“Her short life and tragic death must not be forgotten. Darcy was violently abused and murdered by her father. Her mother allowed her death.
“These were the people who should have loved and cared for her. It was despicable behaviour against a defenceless child.
“It has been an exceptionally difficult investigation and the thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with her elder sibling, who has faced an unimaginable loss and a lengthy judicial process.
“I wish to acknowledge the professionalism and dedication of the officers and staff who have worked so tirelessly on this case, but also the CPS prosecutor and barristers, Harpreet Sandhu Kings Counsel and Joshua Purser.”
Jefferson and Clark will face sentencing at Stafford Crown Court on a date yet to be fixed.
