Staffordshire TikTok star Paige Brookes was banned from driving at Cannock Magistrates’ Court after a 90mph police chase in her bright yellow Chevrolet Coupe
A TikTok star drove at speeds of up to 90mph during a police chase which ended when she crashed into railings. Paige Brookes, 24, who has 142,000 followers on the video platform, was driving her bright yellow Chevrolet Coupe on the A34 when police attempted to stop her in the early hours of the morning.
She called the police and said she would crash if they did not back off and she refused to stop. She drove at excessive speeds and in Silkmore Lane, Stafford, lost control at a roundabout and crashed into railings, reports Stoke on Trent Live.
Her car spun 180 degrees before coming to a halt. Brookes has now been given a suspended jail sentence at Cannock Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Jason Dudhee said police received a call on September 2 from a worried friend of the defendant who said she was suicidal. Her whereabouts were unknown but she had been spotted driving her car.
At 2.15am the following day the car was detected by ANPR cameras on the A34. Police went to locate the vehicle.
Mr Dudhee added: “Brookes called into the call room and stated she would crash if officers did not back off and she refused to stop. The pursuit moved on to the A513. A stinger was deployed but she avoided it. She sped up to 90mph on that road. At that time there was light rain and the road was damp.
“She drove at 50mph on a 30mph road and accelerated to 70mph whilst still in a 30mph zone. She maintained a speed of 50mph on Silkmore Lane.
“Attempting to turn right at a mini-roundabout, she lost control and collided with railings at the roadside. This caused her car to spin 180 degrees before coming to a halt. She tried to carry on driving but was unable due to damage to the front of her vehicle.”
Mr Dudhee stated that it was a ‘prolonged pursuit’ and a ‘deliberate course of dangerous driving’.
Brookes, from Radford Bank, Stafford, admitted to dangerous driving and failing to stop when instructed by a police officer.
Chris Clark, defending, highlighted that Brookes had no previous convictions.
Mr Clark commented: “The driving cannot be excused. It was reckless, impulsive and it is accepted that at times it was dangerous. To her credit, she was not driving at high speed throughout the entire journey. The roads were clear at that early hour.”
He mentioned that Brookes has experienced trauma over several years but commendably ‘she did not seek solace in the bottle’.
Mr Clark added: “She was breathalysed at the scene and registered a reading of zero. She found herself in a very desperate situation that night. It was a cry for help.”
Magistrates handed Brookes a 24-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. This includes a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours of unpaid work.
She was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 surcharge.
