Donald Trump has suggested King Charles would have backed his war in Iran and taken a ‘different stand’ from Keir Starmer when asked about the upcoming visit to the US
Donald Trump has made an astonishing claim about King Charles and the war in Iran.
The US president suggested the King would have backed his war in Iran and taken a “different stand” from Keir Starmer.
“I like him. I always liked him as a prince. He’s a good man, a great representative for your country,” Trump told The Telegraph when asked about the King’s upcoming visit to the US to mark 250 years of American independence.
He added: “I think he would have taken a very different stand (on the war in Iran), but he doesn’t do that. I mean, he’s a great gentleman.” Trump also said the King was “a friend of mine”, adding that he had “nothing to do with this”, in reference to the breakdown in UK-US relations over the Iran war.

He added: “I have a great relationship with King Charles, I’ve known him a long time. He’s a wonderful and brave man, to be honest with you. He’s been through a lot, in many ways.”
Trump’s comments come after he said the UK and other countries which did not take part in strikes against Iran should secure the Strait of Hormuz themselves.
The US president said countries which “refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran” should “build up some delayed courage, go to the strait and just take it”.
Trump suggested allies will “have to start learning how to fight for yourself”. The UK was the only country named in a post by Trump on his Truth Social platform.
Trump wrote: “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
