The Met Office has issued fresh 18-hour weather warnings for the Easter bank holiday weekend, with power outages possible in 31 UK regions. Storm Dave is en route to cause chaos with potential wind gusts of 90mph.
A swiftly deepening area of low pressure will usher in a period of very strong winds late on Saturday and into Easter Sunday morning, which could result in travel mayhem. Widespread gusts of 60-70mph are expected, these winds have a slight chance of escalating to 80-90mph in exposed areas. A yellow wind weather warning for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Scottish borders comes into effect at 6pm on Saturday and will stay in place until 12pm on Sunday.

Due to the weather warnings, power cuts may occur, with the possibility to impact other services, such as mobile phone coverage. Large waves could also create some hazardous conditions around windward coasts and injuries caused by flying debris are possible.
A yellow snow warning is in place for northwest Scotland in conjunction with Storm Dave. Lasting 12 hours, the warning takes effect at 3pm on Saturday until 3am on Sunday.
Northern Ireland is also subject to a yellow wind warning, running from 2pm on Saturday through to 2am on Sunday. The North east, North west, North Wales and sections of Yorkshire and the Humber will experience a yellow wind warning taking effect at 5pm on Saturday, lasting until 7am on Sunday.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree explained: “Storm Dave will form and rapidly deepen on Saturday as it approaches the UK from the west.
“By Saturday afternoon winds will strengthen significantly, with gusts of 60-70mph expected at times across parts of Scotland with the potential for gusts of 80-90mph in exposed coastal locations in Scotland. Gusts of 50-60mph are likely more widely in northern Britain.”
Storm Dave represents the next designation on the 2025-26 Met Office storm list, succeeding Storm Chandra.
