A former Real Madrid and Premier League star had to be rushed to hospital after a World Cup warm-up game in the USA.
James Rodriguez spent three days in hospital after he showed signs of “severe dehydration” during Colombia’s clash with France on Sunday. The ex-Everton star played in the 3-1 loss, that saw temperatures rise to 26 degrees.
And in a statement on Thursday evening, Colombia confirmed Rodriguez had to be transported to hospital: “The day after the match against France, the player presented symptoms of severe dehydration, which necessitated his hospitalisation over the past 72 hours for preventive clinical monitoring and recovery.”

The federation added Rodriguez “has been under professional observation due to a medical condition of non-sports-related origin.
“It is important to clarify that this situation is unrelated to any musculoskeletal injuries, nor is it linked to the performance of his footballing activities.”
And the federation said that the medical report on Rodriguez currently “indicates a favourable prognosis and steady improvement. We wish James a speedy and full recovery.”
Colombia have been drawn into Group K, alongside Portugal, DR Congo and Uzbekistan, for the summer showpiece with Rodriguez expected to captain the South American side.
He has made over 100 appearances for his nation – appearing at three World Cups across his career. It will be somewhat of a home tournament too for Rodriguez, who currently resides stateside.
The 34-year-old joined MLS side Minnesota United earlier this year from Leon. “I’m very happy for this new chapter in my life,” he said.
“I hope to be at my best so I can bring joy to this city and to all of the people who are putting their faith in me.
“I’m looking forward to meeting all of the passionate Minnesota fans because I’m also a passionate player who wants to give everything on the field and always wants to win.”
