A man in his 20s collapsed on Portland Street, Manchester in the early hours of Saturday after falling ill – emergency services were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene
A man collapsed and died in the street after leaving a nightclub, police have confirmed. The clubber, aged in his 20s, is believed to have experienced a medical incident in Manchester city centre during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Emergency crews were summoned to Portland Street at approximately 5.45am, where they discovered the man unconscious. Despite attempts to save him, he was declared dead at the scene.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. It’s understood workers at a neighbouring nightclub assisted the man in leaving the premises shortly before closing time as he felt poorly. They subsequently went to check on him moments before his death, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Portland Street at around 5.45am yesterday. Upon their arrival, officers found a man aged in his 20s unconscious, and despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
