A infamous pork pilferer dubbed the ‘Pink Panther’ has been spotted fleeing after allegedly nabbing £45 worth of bacon. The rogue, dressed in a bright pink tracksuit, was filmed on CCTV cramming 30 packets of unsmoked bacon into their bag.

The culprit has earned the moniker ‘pink panther’ thanks to their eye-catching bright pink hooded ensemble that masks the person’s identity. Nikesh Patel, proprietor of the shop targeted by the criminal, posted the CCTV footage online which garnered a staggering 56,100 views.

He said: “It stood out straight away and made the whole situation quite surreal and, in a way, comical. We’ve been calling them the ‘Pink Panther’ because of what they were wearing. Incidents like this do happen in retail, but this one stood out because of how unusual it looked.”

The suspect was seen at the Costcutter shop in Lumbertubs, Northampton, on February 10. The 36-year-old shop proprietor was baffled after discovering the bacon aisle had been plundered.

Upon checking the surveillance footage he realised that his premises had been allegedly targeted by the ‘Pink Panther’. Footage shows the suspect appearing to stuff a black rucksack with pilfered items – taking ‘bringing home the bacon’ to an entirely new dimension.

The suspect was then said to have been seen dashing along the pavement as they escaped the scene. Nikesh said: “While this one has a humorous side, shoplifting is still a serious issue for small businesses. We deal with incidents like this regularly, and it does have an impact.

“At the same time, if sharing clips like this helps raise awareness and gives people a bit of a laugh, then there’s something positive to take from it.”
