Better late than by no means for presidency to behave on farcical pupil loans

The Daily Star says it’s about time the government takes action to cap interest on student loans and that the farcical situation has gone on too long

What a farce the student loans system is. Young people are clobbered with sky-high repayments because of decisions they made years ago that they thought would improve their lives.

Many have been left feeling totally shortchanged and wondering why they bothered going to university at all.

It’s impossible to escape the feeling that there’s arguably little incentive to progress in their careers.

So it’s right that the Government is finally doing something about the issue.

Interest on some student loans will now be capped at 6% from September. Ministers claim it will help protect graduates from the risk of rising inflation due to the Middle East conflict.

Why they have taken so long to act is beyond us. But it’s a case of better late than never. Although it’s still far too high, hopefully this offers some relief to those who are struggling.

The sun’ll come out

There’s nothing like a spell of good weather to cheer everyone up.

You can almost sense people lighten up straight away. That’s why many will be glad of the sunny conditions we’re seeing now.

After months of misery, that big yellow thing in the sky has come out.

The mercury is even forecast to hit as high as a possible 26C.

Although it’s a bit of a shame it wasn’t like that during the long Easter weekend, you can’t really grumble. Families with kids on school holidays will be particularly relieved.

However, as is often the case, it’ll be fairly short-lived. Forecasters say the warmth will drop a bit tomorrow and get closer to what is normal for this time of year.
