Need to know: Europe Can Outgun Russia Without US, Says War Expert
- Donald Trump has been slammed by a top war expert who claims Europe could easily “outgun” Russia without US help.
- Professor Anthony Glees has delivered a stinging reality check to the President, insisting the UK and its neighbours need to stop “whingeing” and realise they’re a global powerhouse. The row comes as Trump reportedly considers pulling American troops from NATO countries that haven’t backed his Middle East campaign.
- Trump has repeatedly savaged NATO as a “paper tiger,” threatening to walk away from the alliance. But Glees says Trump has it backwards, failing to grasp NATO is a defensive shield, not a personal army.
- Speaking to the Daily Star, Glees said: “Trump could not be more wrong about NATO.” He added: “There’s no logic in Putin’s propaganda. The only person who seems to believe it is Trump.”
- Despite Russia’s vast size, Glees points out Putin’s economy is dwarfed by the West. Russia’s GDP sits at $2.17 trillion, while united Europe boasts a staggering $21 trillion.
- Glees said: “We are massively strong without the USA, we need to stop whingeing and talking ourselves down.” He believes if Europe forms a firm security pact, Americans would eventually come begging for a seat at the table.
- The comments come as the Middle East teeters on the brink with missiles raining down on Kuwait and UAE.
