British holidaymakers can look forward to more pleasant conditions this month as temperatures soar to 22C across swathes of the nation.

Last week the UK enjoyed unusually warm weather which climaxed at 26C in the South East on April 8, making it hotter than Ibiza or Rome, but shortly afterwards the mercury nosedived over the weekend with single-digit readings.

Over the next few days, conditions are expected to stay changeable as low-pressure systems roll in from the Atlantic before temperatures start climbing once more. Weather charts reveal that Kent, Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Greater London are all anticipated to bask in the mildest conditions next week.

These regions are all poised for temperatures of approximately 20C to 22C by mid-week. East Anglia is also predicted to benefit from the brief warm snap, with Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire forecast to reach between 19C and 21C, reports the Mirror.

The hottest location on the charts appears to be sections of Kent and Essex, where temperatures might peak at 22C during afternoon hours.

Moving westward, counties including Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire are predicted to achieve 17C to 19C, while Birmingham and areas of the Midlands could witness highs of 16C to 18C.

Northern England is expected to stay more subdued, though cities such as Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle may still climb to between 13C and 16C. Scotland will experience the coldest conditions overall, with much of the Highlands, Aberdeenshire and the far north remaining between 7C and 10C. Glasgow and Edinburgh could hit around 11C to 13C. Wales is set to bask in delightful spring weather, with Cardiff, Swansea and Newport predicted to climb to between 14C and 17C.

The charts indicate the mild air will drift northwards from the nearby continent, causing temperatures to surge dramatically across the South East.

Coastal regions along the English Channel, including Brighton, Dover, Bournemouth and Portsmouth, are also expected to bask in sunny intervals and peaks near 20C. Temperatures are anticipated to be warmest inland, with coastal zones likely to remain slightly more moderate due to sea breezes.

There is also a distinct north-south split on the charts, with Scotland and Northern Ireland staying considerably cooler than southern England.

The Met Office forecasts for April 17-26 that conditions are poised to become “drier and more settled” towards the conclusion of that timeframe. It states: “Changeable at the start of this period with low pressure to the west or northwest of the UK. This will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, heaviest and most persistent in the northwest, together with some strong winds.

“The southeast is likely to be driest and brightest. Later in this period, conditions may become drier and more settled, perhaps more especially in the north or northwest, with the south possibly becoming the focus for showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures will likely be near or slightly above average overall.”
