Investigators have been summoned following a man’s fall from an aircraft at a UK airport over the weekend. Air accident investigators were deployed to the location after a man tragically tumbled from a plane at Manchester Airport on Saturday (April 11).

The person, believed to be an aircraft engineer, sustained serious injuries including breaks to his arm and leg after dropping from the aircraft’s rear. Emergency medical teams raced to the airport at approximately 8am following the incident.

Images captured at the location show ambulances and fire brigade response units encircling a Jet2 aircraft. The carrier subsequently confirmed that a ‘comprehensive’ investigation had been launched. The man is understood to have been a contractor employed by Jet2 at the time.

In a later development, the Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) verified that specialist investigators were dispatched to the location and enquiries began, reports the Manchester Evening News, reports the Mirror.

A statement recently released by the AAIB declared: “On Saturday 11 April the AAIB were informed of an accident involving a person falling from an aircraft at Manchester Airport. The AAIB dispatched a team to Manchester Airport on Saturday to begin an investigation into the accident.”

In photographs from the location, the aircraft can be observed with a door ajar near the rear. Portable steps used for passengers are also evident in the vicinity. Manchester Airport confirmed that the North West Ambulance Service responded to the incident. It’s believed the plane was due to fly out to Tenerife.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider.
