Mum Scarlett Faulkner has tragically passed away in hospital after her life-support machines were turned off, her devastated family have confirmed.

The 29-year-old mum-of-one, from Limerick, had been on life support at Cork University Hospital for the past three weeks following catastrophic injuries sustained in an alleged roadside attack on the R494 near Birdhill in March.

She suffered severe head injuries from the assault that took place on a busy road on the evening of Saturday, March 21.

A woman and a 16-year-old girl have been charged in relation to the assault. Neither can be named.

The teenager is accused of causing serious harm to Scarlett. The woman faces four charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and two counts of burglary during what the court previously heard was 24 hours of serious violent offences.

On Friday (April 10), Scarlett’s distraught sister-in-law, Josephine Duffy revealed that turning off the life support machine had been postponed as doctors and the family anxiously awaited the outcome of the final assessment.

In a emotional update on Monday morning, Josephine confirmed that the life support machine was switched off around 4pm on Sunday (April 12) with five family members permitted to stay in the hospital to remain by her side throughout the night.

Heartfelt tributes have flooded in for Scarlett from her devastated family members across social media.

Scarlett’s cousin, Melissa McCarthy, shared: “Goodbye our girl fly high your with the angels now oh god mind aunty Mary and banny all your brothers and sisters especially ur little girl nieces nephews in-laws fly high you fought till the last. (sic)”

Another relative wrote: “RIP Scarlett cuzin you will be missed (sic)”.

On Monday evening, Gardaí confirmed that Scarlett had passed away, and that investigations were continuing.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror : “Gardaí continue to investigate a serious assault which occurred on the R494 at Birdhill, Co. Tipperary on Saturday 21 March, 2026 shortly before 5.30pm.

“The woman, aged in her 20s, who was injured in the incident, was pronounced deceased earlier today, Monday, 13 April in Cork University Hospital. The Coroner has been notified. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased. As two persons are currently charged before the courts, An Garda Síochána is not making any further comment. Investigations are ongoing.”
