Travel spending has fallen for the first time since Covid lockdowns as the Iran war and a squeeze on finances dent demand.

Airline, public transport and travel agent transactions dropped 3.3 per cent in March, according to data from Barclays.

Conflict in the Middle East has caused holidaymakers to worry their travel will be disrupted, with 11 per cent of those surveyed saying they had cancelled plans.

But Brits swapping trips abroad for staycations helped spending on hotels and accommodation to rise 1.2 per cent, the research found.
