Eerie pictures of deserted vacation park present abandoned go-carts and empty motels

A daring photographer has snapped some very eerie pictures of an abandoned theme park and has captured pictures of deserted food spots, amusement rides in ruin and derelict hotels.

The Pontins Holiday Park in Southport, Merseyside, shut its doors for good on January 3, 2024, having been open since 1970. Pontins Holiday Parks fell into administration in 2010 leading to Pontins being bought by the Britannia Hotel Group on January 28, 2011.

It is believed the holiday park operator was purchased for an estimated £20million by the hotel group. The snapper, known as the Adventurous Hiker on social media, shared the snaps on Facebook after a recent visit to the site. The pics drew in a considerable amount of attention on Facebook as locals where quick to share their thoughts about the fallen theme park.

One commenter said: “Such a shame used to have great family holidays at Pontins camps in the mid 90s but sadly over the years like most things now the got bought out by groups and other companies and standards and conditions drastically dropped and the sites was run into the ground because of little to no investment.”

Another commenter reflected on past holidays they spent at the park and wrote: “Went there for few days 2016 what a dump. Used to enjoy holidays there.”

Other commenters urged for some of the abandoned hotels to be used to house people. A final social media user said: “All them apartments could be used to house people, what a waste.”
