This is the man who has been slapped with a series of serious assault charges after six individuals were reportedly attacked with a crowbar at a hospital, resulting in injuries.

Omar Momand stands accused of four counts of wounding with intent, attempted wounding, assault causing actual bodily harm, affray, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place following the incident at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows last December.

The 20-year-old, residing on Bradleigh Road in the town, was presented before Liverpool Crown Court this morning, Wednesday, to face these allegations. Appearing via video link from HMP Altcourse, dressed in a grey prison-issue jumper and sporting short dark hair, he only spoke to verify his name and date of birth and was not required to enter pleas to any charges.

The charges also include a count of cannabis possession relating to a quantity of the class B drug discovered at his home address.

However, a trial, expected to last four to five days, has been set for the week commencing September 14, 2026. Momand, originally hailing from Afghanistan, was further remanded in custody until this date.

Adjourning the case, Judge Louise Brandon stated: “There will be another hearing in your case on the 19th of June. You will appear via video link in the same way you have done today. “You will remain in custody in the meantime.”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“We will see you on the 19th of June. Thank you Mr Momond, that concludes your hearing today. You can go with the officers now.”

The ECHO previously reported that Merseyside Police was called to the scene at around midday on December 30, 2025 after receiving reports that a man had attended the hospital and requested an appointment before becoming “increasingly agitated” when he was refused.

He was then said to have damaged a countertop before assaulting several others with a weapon, believed to be a crowbar.

One worker at a Best One store opposite the hospital, Sugedran Shanmugaraja, told the ECHO that a woman ran into the shop asking for help, adding: “She had a lot of blood at the back of her head and on her shoulder.

“She was shaking and upset. Next thing there were 10 or 15 police cars and an ambulance.”

Sources also described how some inside the hospital barricaded themselves inside rooms as the incident unfolded. Another resident said: “You don’t expect something like that to happen at a hospital of all places. I just hope everyone involved is okay.”

The force subsequently confirmed that six people had been injured, sustaining head lacerations, bruising and injuries to the arms and hands.
