NEED TO KNOW: Suspected Irish mob boss Daniel Kinahan’s ‘arrogance’ led to Dubai arrest shock

  • Suspected Irish mob boss Daniel Kinahan was arrested in Dubai last week after his “arrogance” led him into a false sense of security.
  • The 48-year-old fugitive believed the “big money” he’d allegedly splashed around the UAE would guarantee he’d be tipped off before any police moves. But insiders claim he was completely “blindsided” by the 48-hour sting operation.
  • Kinahan had been on the run for years and living in Dubai since 2016 with his father Christy Kinahan Sr after fleeing Spain. The pair originally left Ireland following the infamous Regency Hotel attack that sparked a bloody gang war.
  • A senior security source revealed Kinahan invested heavily in UAE contacts, thinking his wealth would protect him. “Because they had so much money splashed around the place, they thought they were important and would be tipped off. But that is totally not true, so they were blindsided,” they told the Mail.
  • The arrest came through cooperation between Irish gardai and Dubai officials, with Kinahan facing charges for directing an organised crime gang. “They didn’t know it was coming at all,” said a source familiar with the operation.
  • Sources described the arrest as “unbelievable” and “phenomenal”, calling it potentially one of the biggest criminal justice outcomes in Irish history.
