A Finnish Air Force training exercise descended into mayhem after cheeky pilots appeared to draw ‘penis-shaped’ flight paths.
The cadets were reportedly told off for their crude antics, which were visible on the Flightradar tracking service. Flight data shows several aircraft taking off from Tikkakoski near the city of Jyväskylä in central Finland.
The planes departed at around 7.30am, April 13, before radar images indicated at least four of the flights embarked on routes resembling the shape of a penis. Finland’s military airforce have confirmed the naughty flight students would be “disciplined” for their behaviour.
A spokesperson for the Air Force said the purpose of the flights was to practice turns within an assigned training area.
“The aircraft remained in the training area assigned to the flight mission and performed the exercises given in the flight mission assignment. The aircraft did not deviate from their route,” the email said.
There’s now been an investigation into the Austin Powers-esque shenanigans, but the force’s spokesperson was unwilling to comment further on the sanctions the cadets may face.
“The Air Force requires soldiers to follow good manners and rules of conduct, and if these are deviated from, it will be responded to in an appropriate manner,” the statement said.
The spokesperson added further that the flights did not pose any danger to other air traffic.
The humorous incident draws parallels with comedy classic Austin Powers, where Air Traffic Control are baffled by a massive “willy-shaped” plane ploughing through the sky.
In the iconic scene from The Spy Who Shagged Me, 1999, the joke features a rapid-fire sequence of characters interrupting each other to describe the “unidentified flying object” with euphemisms, including “dick” (a pilot), “pecker” (bird-watching woman) and “privates” (army sergeant).
The scene concludes with Dr. Evil himself over the radio, looking at the same radar, saying: “just a little p****”.
