Trump Is In His ‘Worst Position Ever’ On This Key Issue, CNN’s Harry Enten Says

CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Monday revealed how President Donald Trump is struggling in historic fashion on an issue he once vowed to end on Day 1 of his second term: inflation. (Watch his analysis in the clip below.)

“Americans say inflation is the No. 1 issue facing them right now. And to quote the great Happy Gilmore, according to them, the price is wrong when it comes to the president of the United States,” Enten said.

Enten highlighted several polls published in the last month that found Trump’s handling of inflation with net approval ratings (percent of those who approve minus those who disapprove) as high as -36 points and as low as -47 points.

Enten stressed that the figures are “all-time record lows” for the president.

He noted that the president’s average net approval rating on inflation is “42 points underwater.” Among independents, that figure is at -60 points.

“Trump is in his worst position ever on the issue,” he emphasized.

Enten likened Trump’s polling on inflation to the New York Mets who, as of Monday afternoon, have lost 11 straight regular-season games, marking the team’s longest such losing streak in over two decades.

CNN’s John Berman chimed in, pointing out that Trump did well on inflation and with independents during his 2024 campaign.

Enten replied by noting that Trump is now parting ways with the “strengths” he once held with the electorate that helped him secure a second term.

“And why that’s so important is, even though Trump isn’t on the ballot come November, a lot of Republicans in Congress are on the ballot,” he said.

“And if these numbers hold, you can wave adios, amigos, goodbye, see you later — certainly to that House majority and maybe that Senate majority as well.”
