Donald Trump has used the Mandelson scandal to reignite his feud with Keir Starmer. The US Presidenttook to Truth Social to really put the boot in, stating Starmer made a “really bad pick” in appointing Mandelson as UK Ambassador to the US.

Trump made the comments after Starmer addressed the incident in the House of Commons. The scandal has mounted pressure on Starmer, but unfazed Trump claims Starmer has “plenty of time to recover” in a slight bit of optimism.

The US President posted: “Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom acknowledged that he ‘exercised wrong judgement’ when he chose his Ambassador to Washington. I agree, he was a really bad pick. Plenty of time to recover, however!”

He then signed his informal post off from “President DJT.”

Trump weighed in on Mandelson’s position, and suggested Starmer was unable to make a good choice for the role.

Starmer has spoken on the scandal this week and said he is “frankly staggered” that he was not told Mandelson hadn’t passed security vetting.

He has continuously apologised for appointing the ambassador but remains under the spotlight for the decision.

He said to MPs on Monday it “beggars belief” the Foreign Office withheld the explosive information – and once again apologised for ever appointing Lord Mandelson.

Mandelson formally took up the role in February 2025, and was sacked seven months later due to his ties to Epstein.

Starmer has argued “I did not mislead the House” but instead should have been given more information about Mandelson’s vetting.
