EXCLUSIVE: Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie says he’s penned a World Cup song for Scotland and is ready to bring out this summer
Scotland’s Tartan army may have an unlikely new anthem to sing on the American terraces this summer courtesy of Primal Scream.
Singer Bobby Gillespie has revealed he penned a World Cup anthem for the Scots, and he’s digging it out in time for the tournament next month. Speaking to the Daily Star Gillespie said: “I did write one a couple of years ago. I’ll have to dig it out, it’s quite good actually.
“I named some of the team and the manager. Ive got a tape of it.”
Like their song, the ‘Screams hope Scotland will. be Movin’ On Up come World Cup time next month. However, Bobby doesn’t think he’ll be attending because he fears they won’t be allow him in the country.
He explained: “I’m not going out there.
“The thing is everybody wants to go to America but nobody is sure if they’re going to get in or not because it’s very un-American (at the moment), against the constitution .
“They seem to bechecking everybody and what their politics are and vetting people . It’s a bit strange innit? It’s an authoritarian style of things.”
Never shy of sharing his feeling on subjects, Bobby would love to get out there and soak up the atmosphere, not just because of the football but because of the politics.
“I’d love to go to America,” she told the ‘Star. “I haven’t been for a while. I’d like to go there now because its fascinating what is happening and I would love to be there.”
“I just don’t know if they I’d get in the country or not I dont know if that’s just rumours!”
Sounds like a Primal Scream tour of the US is a way off but at least there will be a few other Scots out there for the footy.
He said: “There will be plenty of Tartan Army there. I look forward to it, it’ll be fun, fun for us anyway, We got no illusions about winning it….unlike some people.”
