Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada caused a mass brawl during the game against Huesca, after throwing a punch at the face of an opposition player. The goalkeeper had been shown a red after pushing another player to the ground.
Something then appeared to anger the player as he suddenly pushes others aside and makes his way over to Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and throws his arm towards his face, knocking him to the ground. Andrada is then surrounded by angry Huesca players as a brawl on the pitch ensues, including players and members of both sides’ coaching teams. as well as security.
After a few seconds, Andrada is led from the pitch to the sidelines. Things eventually calmed down.
But two more red cards were shown, one for Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez for punching Andrads, and a second to Zaragoza’s Dani Tisdale who was shown a red after a VAR review.
Speaking about the incident, which occurred in the closing stages, Huesca manager Jose Luis said: “It’s hard to explain; I think it’s a complete loss of control.
I can put myself in their shoes, given what was at stake and all. But it’s unjustifiable.
“It’s just that I don’t know what to do or how to stop it; a brawl breaks out.
“It’s ugly; this was supposed to be a celebration of Aragonese football. I’d like people to talk about the match, even though it was ugly, with little play but a lot of hard work.”
The La Liga 2 match was a meeting between two relegation-threatened sides. Oscar Sielva’s 65th minute penalty gave Huesca a vital 1-0 win.
The victory moves them up to 19th place in the table, one point above their opponents in 21st position.
Both clubs remain in the relegation zone, with the bottom four clubs dropping into the Spanish third division.
Following the incident, Pulido could be seen with bruising near his left eye.
Zagara are back in action on Frdiay when they host Granada (9pm kick-off). Huesca, meanwhile, travel to top-of-the-table Racing on Sunday afternoon.
