Subway parked outside a McDonald’s restaurant to give out free grilled chicken meals – after their rival axed similar items from their menu.

The sandwich chain say they saw McDonald’s customers disappointed at news they’ve stopped selling five grilled chicken salads and wraps.

In response they parked a Subway-branded food van outside a McDonald’s in Reading, Berkshire, and offered customers free grilled chicken salads and sweet chilli chicken wraps.

Subway are even offering a free £10 e-voucher to 100 people who comment ‘SOZ MACCIES’ on their social media post.

The stunt comes after Instagram users branded McDonald’s decision ‘super annoying’, with some even pledging to boycott the fast food giants.

One commented: “That’s super annoying for people who need a healthier option.”

A second said: “You must be joking. They’ve gone raving mad.”

A third even added: “Well that’s me done with McDonalds.”

Kirstey Elston, who is Subway’s EMEA senior marketing director, claims customers are ‘always in control’ of their ‘fully customisable’ salads and wraps.

Kirstey said: “We’ve seen how passionate fans are about their chicken salads and wraps so when they disappeared elsewhere we knew we could help.

“All our salads and wraps are fully customisable and made fresh so whether you want chicken breast strips, extra heat from some jalapenos, pickles, olives or your favourite sauce combo, you’re always in control.”
