Amazon are rumoured to be rebooting The Apprentice in the US and favourite to replace former host Donald Trump is his son Donald Trump Jr
Donald Trump’s son is favourite to replace him as the host of the US version of The Apprentice.
Amazon is reportedly mulling over a potential reboot of the reality show where candidates compete to prove their business acumen to a industry titan – previously Donald Trump. According to the Wall Street Journal the show could return in the US on streamer Prime Video but instead of the President saying “you’re fired” his son, Donald Trump Jr could be pointing the finger.
48-year-old Donald Trump Jr. is the eldest son of the President and serves Executive Vice President at The Trump Organization, managing various real estate developments and corporate acquisitions.
He’s also a prominent political ‘firebrand’ speaker and campaigner for his father, highly involved in daddy’s political campaigns, often acting as a key conduit to the Trump base.
Trump Jr. previously appeared as an advisor on The Apprentice when his dad fronted the show so he knows the ropes.
However, the President’s first choice to replace him may ideally have been a different offspring. Trump – who left the show to run for office in 2015 – is quoted in the book Apprentice in Wonderland as saying: “I said, ‘The best person to hire would be Ivanka Trump. I didn’t press it. But I felt Ivanka would have been by far the best person you could hire.”
Trump Jr. shares five kids with ex wife Vanessa Haydon who is now in a relationship with gold legend Tiger Woods. The pair began dating quietly around November 2024 and went public with their relationship in March 2025.
Amazon already have a strong relationship with the Trump family having released Melania, the documentary about First Lady Melania Trump. Despite being panned by critics the Brett Ratner film enjoyed the best opening for a non-fiction feature with a $7 million domestic box office haul before moving onto the streaming site.
Nothing has been confirmed yet and an Amazon spokesperson played down reports and told Variety: “Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property. The show is not in active development, and any reporting on details of the show or names of potential hosts would be purely speculative.”
However, the Wall Street Journal claims Amazon MGM Studios “began talking about the reboot idea internally early last year, around the time Trump was being sworn in for his second term, according to some of the people familiar with the talks.”
The original version of The Apprentice USA ran for 186 episodes from 2004-2015 and spawned multiple spinoffs, such as Celebrity Apprentice and The Apprentice: Martha Stewart.
The UK version of the show still airs on the BBC with Sir Alan Sugar at the helm.
