Farringdon Station closed over ‘fuel leak’ after ‘a number of passengers unwell’

A busy UK train station has been dramatically closed until ‘until further notice’ as eyewitnesses report armed police being on the scene.

Farringdon Station in London was suddenly closed off to passengers with trains in both directions no longer stopping at the popular destination today (April 30).

British Transport Police has now confirmed that passengers were feeling unwell and were called to the scene. Police believe a suspected has leak has occurred at the station.

They wrote on X: “We are on scene at Farringdon station following reports of a suspected gas leak, with a small number of passengers reporting feeling unwell.

Officers are in attendance, alongside @Ldn_Ambulance and @LondonFire , and the station has been evacuated while enquiries are conducted.”

ThamesLink has issued a statement on the incident and confirmed emergency services are at the scene. They said: “The emergency services are dealing with an incident at Farringdon station.

“The station has been closed until further notice and no trains will call here in either direction.”

The rail operator has now advised people to use alternative routes as it is currently unknown when the station will reopen.

ThamesLink provided an update to passengers while advising on how passengers can travel around the disruption at Farringdon Station.

They wrote on X: “If you are travelling southbound towards Farringdon you will need to change at London St. Pancras International for local TfL bus services towards your destination.

I”f you are travelling northbound towards Farringdon you will need to change at City Thameslink for local TfL bus services towards your destination.

“If you are starting your journey from Farringdon you will need to use TfL Buses to either City Thameslink or London St. Pancras International.”
