Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital as a precaution after feeling unwell at Old Trafford during Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool, with a source close to the Manchester United legend has spoken
Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be recovering after being admitted to hospital. The legendary Manchester United manager had been at Old Trafford for his former club’s Premier League encounter with Liverpool.
He was in attendance to watch the fixture from as he regularly does when the Red Devils are playing at home. Nevertheless, he was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after feeling poorly while at the ground. United won the game 3-2 and confirmed their Champions League place for next season.
Prior to being swiftly escorted from the stadium to hospital, he was spotted on social media greeting fans and chatting with other staff members. However, it’s now understood Fergusonis in good spirits and is feeling considerably better.
When questioned by the Press Association about how Ferguson was doing after becoming unwell at Old Trafford, a source close to the iconic Scotsman said he was “Okay.”
It’s understood Ferguson was initially examined by on-site medical staff in the tunnel area of the venue, where he first began feeling poorly. As a precautionary step, he was rushed from the stadium and taken to hospital, reports the Express.
Given how much he relishes watching the club, Ferguson surely would have found a way to view the match on television. If he managed to do so, he would have witnessed Michael Carrick’s side secure their spot in next season’s Champions League. United prevailed over Liverpool in a thrilling back-and-forth clash at Old Trafford. During the opening period, the Reds looked poised to demolish their bitter rivals.
Matheus Cunha fired the Reds ahead with a mishit half-volley that confused Freddie Woodman in the Liverpool goal and nestled into the far corner. United then extended their advantage through a controversial strike from Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenian forced home a goal which may or may not have brushed his hand en route to the net, but after VAR failed to secure a definitive view of the incident, the goal was permitted to stand.
After the break, Liverpool burst from the blocks and were back on level terms within 11 second half minutes as Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo capitalised on sloppy United defending to restore parity. However, in the 77th minute, Kobbie Mainoo steered home a sublime half volley from 18 yards to secure all three points for his team.
It was a strike that guaranteed United will finish in the top five and earn qualification for next season’s Champions League, following two campaigns outside Europe’s premier tournament.
