Warburtons manufacturing facility goes up in flames as pilot TV star gives to airlift any casualties

A Warburtons factory in Burnley went up in flames on Monday afternoon with crews rushing in to battle the huge flames which reportedly spread to delivery trucks

A massive fire has broken out at a Warburtons factory with reports suggesting a building and trucks have gone up in flames.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called reports of a fire at a commercial property just before 3pm. There are currently twelve fire engines at the scene. Black plumes of smoke can be seen for miles around with residents advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

The service said: “At 14:45 today fire crews from across Lancashire were called to a commercial property fire on Billington Road, Burnley. Currently there are twelve fire engines in attendance. If you can see or smell smoke, please keep your windows and doors closed.”

David Fishwick, a Burnley businessman and star of Netflix’s Bank of Dave, took to the skies in a helicopter after spotting the fire at the Warburtons factory. He said fire engines had just arrived at the scene and that he could airlift up to five people to hospital if authorities needed.

A spokesperson for Warburtons said: “We can confirm that thankfully everyone has safely been evacuated from the building.

“We are grateful to the fire brigade who are currently working extremely hard to get the fire under control. We don’t know the cause of the fire, or the full extent of the damage as yet.”

David Fishwick said to his followers: “I am just above Burnley, just flying over. I hope everybody is okay. There is a huge fire. It is unbelievable how big the fire is, it is unbelievable how big it is.

“It looks like the factory roof is going up at the Warburton’s factory.

“We are just going to ring the fire brigade, and I hope everything is okay. The smoke is going up to the clouds.

“I have not seen a fire like that for a long, long time. We have called the fire brigade, and they are en route. A fantastic police and fire brigade service we have in Burnley.”
