An underperforming England star has reportedly reached an agreement to sign a huge new contract despite fans demanding his club cash in and sell him in the summer
A Premier League star has agreed to sign a huge new contract despite fans demanding his transfer exit in the summer.
Phil Foden has been incredibly underwhelming at Manchester City for some time now, but the England international has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign a new contract to remain at the Etihad.
The City academy product is set to turn 26 before this summer’s World Cup, which he faces a faltering fight to even make following his poor performances under Pep Guardiola this season. Fans have raised their concerns that Foden’s once flourishing career is now stalling in Manchester, in the same vein as Marcus Rashford across the city.
However, it’s reported that Foden has reached an agreement in principle to sign a new four-year deal until June 2030, with the option of a further year, to remain at City.
Foden’s previous £225,000-per-week terms were set to expire next season, but it has not yet been reported how much the attacking midfielder is set to boost his paycheck by.
Fans have hit out at Foden’s decision to commit his future to City when he has started just two games in the last two months. But also City’s decision not to cash in this summer.
One user wrote: “I thought it’s time he left. His career has stalled” A second echoed: “Can’t help but feel this is a really bad move. His career has gone so stale and it looks highly likely that he won’t get anywhere near fulfilling his potential. I would love to see him play under a manager who gives him total freedom at 10. New gazza.”
A third added: “What the actual?! Never plays now. Guess he’s happy sitting on Man City bench! Thought he was nailed on to leave in the summer.” While a fourth said: “Not sure why he’s done this when he could go to another club and revive his career it’s players being stupid yet again.”
