Manchester United are reportedly set to be busy in the summer transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League and Champions League campaign
Manchester United face a crucial summer transfer window after securing their Champions League berth. Michael Carrick’s team are third in the Premier League and have confirmed their return to Europe’s elite competition.
The manager is making a compelling case to be handed the position permanently after extracting the maximum from his United squad. Carrick has triumphed in 10 of his 14 matches at the helm to propel his former club up the league but the side will require fresh signings in the transfer market as they gear up for Champions League action.
The engine room has become a key priority this time, as United prepare to wave goodbye to Casemiro. Various candidates have been mentioned to fill the Brazilian’s boots and offer additional depth in the centre of the park. Manchester United have been connected with Bournemouth pair Tyler Adams and Alex Scott, plus West Ham talent Mateus Fernandes, in their hunt for new midfielders, reports the Mirror.
Casemiro has been exceptional for Carrick’s outfit, making the discovery of the perfect successor vital for United. Sky Sports suggests that Bournemouth stars Adam and Scott, along with Hammers midfielder Fernandes, are among the new targets under consideration.
It’s reported that United aim to sign two central midfield players to strengthen their squad in the summer. The trio join a host of other options linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba are said to be highly-rated by the club, alongside the likes of Crystal Palace ace Adam Wharton, Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and Wolves’ Joao Gomes.
Summer budget becomes clear
Manchester United could reportedly splash out £150million on new midfielders this summer. The club have bolstered their transfer budget by securing a spot in the Champions League.
The Daily Mail reports that United are ready to fork out £80m on a direct replacement for Casemiro. An additional £40m could be spent on another target if the club manage to offload Manuel Ugarte for the right price, with the prospect of bringing in three midfielders not being dismissed.
The report’s list of targets includes Anderson, Baleba, Wharton, Tonali and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as the trio of Adams, Scott and Fernandes. It’s suggested that the club also want to recruit a left-back, centre-back, left-sided forward and back-up goalkeeper in the forthcoming transfer window.
