Adidas releases AI Beckham in star-studded world cup ad

  • Adidas has dropped a bonkers new World Cup ad featuring an AI-generated David Beckham alongside Hollywood A-lister Timothee Chalamet.
  • The star-studded “Backyard Legends” campaign also features Bad Bunny, Lionel Messi, and Jude Bellingham in a five-minute epic. AI versions of football legends Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Alessandro del Piero take centre stage in the bizarre clip.
  • The film follows Chalamet assembling his dream team to take on a local crew who’ve been dominating their neighbourhood pitch. The AI football legends then showcase their “impeccable skills” to beat the opposition while real stars like Messi look on in shock.
  • Chalamet gushed about working with his childhood heroes, saying: “I used to dream of playing with these guys − you know, I was playing at Pier 40 as a kid, thinking about Beckham’s free kicks, Del Piero’s goals, and Zidane’s volleys.”
  • The campaign also features cameos from Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, Raphinha, Pedri, Florian Wirtz and Santiago Gimenez. Adidas said the ad proves to footballers and fans that they have the potential to do anything.
  • The sports giant is serving as a major sponsor for the upcoming tournament in Canada, the US and Mexico, providing kits for 14 nations and the official match balls.
