Former Leicester hero Jamie Vardy reveals his mischievous side in a new documentary about his life, insisting on using a bottle opener shaped like a penis. Currently playing for Serie A side Cremonese, Vardy will open up on his life in Untold UK: Jamie Vardy, which will be released globally on Netflix on Tuesday, May 12.

Vardy, 39, was part of the Foxes’ legendary Premier League title triumph in 2016. He scored a whopping 200 goals in 500 appearances for Leicester before leaving last summer for Italy. Yet the goalscorer has always had a maverick, and somewhat unconventional, streak.

In the new documentary, Vardy insists he wants a beer before the interview can begin. After the interviewer asks where the drinks are kept, in classic fashion, Vardy responds: “The cupboard just behind you there, the little one. There should be Modelos at the bottom. Right, this is where it gets weird. Can you get the big wooden c**k out of the draw that the lady is leaning on please?”

The former striker is then given the beer and the crude bottle opener, which he uses to open the drink before getting the chat underway.

The bottle opener is just another surreal anecdote from one of the finest English strikers of his generation. Another of which came in his autobiography, Jamie Vardy: From Nowhere, My Story, where he shared his pre-game routine: drinking port from a Lucozade bottle and three cans of Red Bull.

“I can’t say why it started, because I genuinely don’t know, but I decided to drink a glass of port on the eve of every game in the 2015-16 season,” Vardy wrote. “I’m not normally superstitious but from the moment I scored against Sunderland on the opening day, I didn’t want to change anything.

“I fill a small plastic water or Lucozade bottle to halfway and just sip the port while watching television. It tastes like Ribena to me, and it helps me switch off and get to sleep a bit easier the night before a game.”

However, the behaviour that made him so beloved almost cost him his chance of becoming a Premier League champion after he turned up drunk for training in his early days at Leicester.

Foxes vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha revealed that the ex-Fleetwood Town forward struggled to adapt to life in the big leagues after making the jump from non-league football.

Srivaddhanaprabha told A Day magazine in Thailand: “He went straight from the bottom to the Championship, which eventually led him to start drinking booze every single day. We had no idea what to do. I didn’t even know about this until someone told me that he came to train while he was still drunk.”

But a warning from Srivaddhanaprabha transformed Vardy. He added: “After that he simply quit drinking and started working hard in training. His physicality wasn’t as good as it is now.”

In April 2025, Vardy told Foxes fans he was leaving after over a decade of service. “Gutted that this day has come but I knew it was going to come eventually,” he said. “I’ve had 13 unbelievable years at this club with lots of success, some down but the majority all highs. It’s finally time to call it a day which I am devastated about.”
