Shocked baseball supporters were left picking their jaws up off the floor this week after a mysterious performer took to the pitch to deliver a spine-tingling rendition of the US national anthem. Stunned crowds at a minor league game in Charlotte, North Carolina, didn’t know what to expect when a figure emerged in a bright yellow jumpsuit and iconic red-and-white stripes.

But as soon as the first notes of the Star Spangled Banner echoed through the stadium, the laughter turned to genuine awe.

Despite the bizarre sight of a man in giant floppy shoes and a neon red wig clutching a microphone, the performance was no joke.

The secret superstar behind the mic was none other than Ronald McDonald. The world-famous fast-food mascot ditched the burger flipping for a day to show off a hidden talent that left the Triple-A Charlotte Knights faithful impressed.

Footage captured at the ballpark shows the clown powerhouse hitting every high note with professional precision.

The team shared the now-viral clip on social media, sparking a frenzy of disbelief from sports fans across the globe.

The Knights captioned the video: “You never know what you’ll see in the ballpark.” Social media users were quick to react to the surreal moment, with many struggling to process Ronald’s secret pipes.

One fan wrote: “This is the most American thing ever.” A supporter of a rival team posted: “Wait how do we make this happen.”

A third viewer said: “When did Ronald McDonald take vocal lessons.” Another added: “Colour me McImpressed! Ronald’s got a set of pipes on him!!!”

Ronald was appearing as part of the team’s annual Sport a Shirt charity event. While the players on the field were seen visibly struggling to keep a straight face during the anthem, the mascot’s vocal prowess seemed to act as a lucky charm.

The Knights went on to absolutely demolish the Gwinnett Stripers with a staggering 21-1 victory on May 2.

While the win was a big one for the Charlotte side, it has been a rocky road overall this season in the International League.

The Knights, who are an affiliate of the MLB’s Chicago White Sox, are currently hovering at an even 18-18 record.

They remain five games adrift of the Syracuse Mets, but if Ronald keeps turning up to provide the soundtrack, a comeback might just be on the cards.
