Ghost hunter Brocarde claims she was ‘scratched’ by the spirit of a young girl called Sallie during a paranormal investigation at the notorious Sallie House in Kansas
A ghost hunter has claimed she was left bedbound after a terrifying encounter with a “demonic” child spirit during a stay at a notorious haunted house. Brocarde, 42, who famously “married” a Victorian ghost, was touring the US when she decided to spend a night at the infamous Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas.
The 19th-century property is world-renowned among paranormal investigators as a hotspot for sinister activity. Legend has it the house is haunted by the spirit of a young girl named Sallie, who reportedly died in the 1900s after a doctor performed surgery on her without enough anaesthesia.
The singer, from Oxfordshire, revealed that the atmosphere in the home was oppressive from the moment she stepped through the door.
Brocarde said: “The whole house is eerie as hell. When you arrive, it instantly drains every ounce of energy from you. It’s almost completely empty aside from hundreds of toys and dolls.
“The décor is lost in time, like a house your great-grandma would’ve needed to redecorate. The smell is also slightly off, a weird mix of rotting flesh and heavy chemicals.”
The investigator described the nursery as the “most terrifying” room, claiming she discovered a “circle of dolls conducting a séance.”
She said: “I stood in the centre of the circle and could instantly feel my legs get heavy, like they were being sucked into the ground. My limbs started to ache, a strange sensation entered my body, and I just wanted to leave.”
Despite her fear, Brocarde stayed through the night. But at 3am, the activity turned violent. After earlier alleging that something “grabbed” her leg in the basement, she returned to the nursery to face the entity.
She said: “It was pretty obvious that no sleep would be on the cards and, at about 3am, I decided to go back into the nursery and face whatever was in there. I tried to communicate with ‘Sallie’.
“I grabbed a pink crayon, but something snapped it in my hand. I thought perhaps pink wasn’t her colour, so I picked up a black crayon and asked what she wanted to say.
“‘Go home’ was the message, and then the crayon snapped in two.” Moments later, the encounter allegedly turned physical.
Brocarde said: “At that moment, something grabbed me from behind and I felt a stabbing pain in my arm. I pulled back my sleeve to reveal five scratch marks, almost like tally marks, on my arm. I felt sick, feverish, and very dizzy, and the apparition of a young girl appeared.”
As she tried to flee the property, Brocarde says she saw objects being thrown and felt the entity strike one last time on the stairs. She said: “Whatever haunts The Sallie House is sinister, and I needed to remove myself.”
The ghost hunter, who previously chronicled her “stormy relationship” and eventual “exorcism divorce” from a spirit named Edwardo, noticed a drawing of the child in the kitchen before she escaped, but it didn’t match the ghost she saw.
She said: “This image was a far cry from the ghost of the young girl I saw upstairs. She was messy, in a medical gown, distorted, and she definitely didn’t have a pretty bow in her hair.”
