MotoGP icon Marc Marquez was rushed to a local medical centre after he landed on his head during a sickening crash on Saturday afternoon.

Marquez was competing in a spring race at the famous Le Mans circuit when his bike veered off course on turn 14 during the penultimate lap. The MotoGP icon was launched off his vehicle and landed on his head in the sickening incident.

Amazingly, the Spaniard was able to walk away from the crash, and he made his way to the track’s medical centre, where he received a further checks from doctors that were stationed site.

And the resulting X-ray has revealed he escaped with a broken metatarsal, ruling him out of tomorrow’s Grand Prix as well as next week’s Catalan Grand Prix.

An update from Ducati read: “Following the crash during the SPRINT at #FrenchGP and after a medical check and X-ray @marcmarquez93 was declared unfit for a 5th metatarsal fracture in his right foot.

“He will fly to Madrid tonight to undergo surgery. He will not participate in #CatalanGP”.

Marquez won world championships in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 while racing with Honda. And he added a seventh last season while racing with Ducati.

Footage of the crash went viral on social media: “Márquez was really lucky that the bike didn’t hit him after that highside. It came really close!”

“That was a brutal crash… I hope Marc is ok after that,” a second replied. And another added: “OK what’s going on cause last year all you heard was him dominating and winning everything and all I’ve heard of him this year is him crashing…”
