New UK weather maps show that a ‘mini heatwave’ forecast for May 20 is on the way, with some areas including London and Cambridge expected to bask in temperatures of up to 26C
Britain is poised to enjoy a bout of blistering weather, with fresh charts suggesting that a 26C ‘mini heatwave’ could be soon to engulf the nation.
The most recent weather projections from WXCharts reveal the sweltering conditions will arrive in the UK on May 20. A ‘mini-heatwave’ is classified when temperatures climb above 20C, particularly during periods when such warmth wouldn’t typically be anticipated.
The charts have shifted to orange across numerous regions, signalling the potential for significantly hotter weather. Based on the projections, zones surrounding London will experience the most intense heat, with temperature readings soaring to peaks of 26C.
This will be marginally warmer than the southern coastline, which may witness highs of 23C and 24C, while the Midlands, South West and East Anglia will enjoy 20C warmth, the charts indicate.
In other areas, temperatures might reach peaks of 18C across the North West and Wales, dropping only fractionally in the North East to 17C. Scotland is expected to remain somewhat cooler, with the charts displaying temperature maximums ranging between 13C and 16C.
Nevertheless, the Met Office’s extended forecast for May 13-22 implies millions of Britons may not be quite so fortunate with warmer conditions, reports the Express.
It states: “Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by.
“This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected.
“For the most part, temperatures are likely to be close to or perhaps a little below normal, with winds often blowing from a northwesterly quadrant.
“By the end of this period, pressure may increase towards the southwest, which could bring more in the way of dry weather here.”
