A man who faked being a teenager so he could attend high school has been sentenced to four years in prison (May 7).

Venezuelan national Anthony Labrador-Sierra, 25, was accused of using false documents to pose as a 16-year-old to attend Perrysburg High School in Ohio, US.

He was convicted of forgery and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor in March. Labrador-Sierra managed to fool his legal guardians in Ohio, who thought they were helping a homeless teenage immigrant escape a trafficking situation.

The guardians were only made aware of his real identity after the mother of Labrador-Sierra’s child reached out to them, according to police reports.

After the revelation, Labrador-Sierra’s guardians searched his room and found a burner phone, a fake driver’s licence with a 1999 date of birth, money, a gun and three loaded 9mm magazines under his mattress.

He was convicted in September and sentenced to two years in prison and three years of probation earlier this year on federal forgery and perjury charges.

A previous court filing said he is ordered to have no contact with any student at Perrysburg High School.

Labrador-Sierra’s crime is chillingly similar to the plot of 21 Jump Street, where Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s characters are police officers sent undercover to pose as students at a high school.

Evelyn Camacho, 23, Labrador-Sierra’s ex and mother of his child, said she did not know why he had posed as a student.

Speaking to the New York Post, she said: ““Probably only he knows why he did it. And, maybe, not even him, to be honest. Anthony is impulsive.”

“People were shocked for sure,” a mother whose son attended Perrysburg High School and knew Labrador told The Post. “We live in an area that is somewhat conservative. There were some who were, like, ‘Holy moley. How did he get past [school officials]?’”

A statement from Perrysburg Schools read: “We’ve reviewed our enrollment process and confirmed we followed federal law.

“Schools are required to immediately enroll unaccompanied minors without requiring standard enrollment paperwork. While we were not required to, the school district did also obtain a birth certificate.”
