Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly set to produce a new Netflix war film adapted from No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege, a true account of British soldiers besieged by the Taliban
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly set to produce a new war film for Netflix. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will collaborate with scripted content head Tracy Ryerson to adapt the book No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege into a film through their production company, Archewell Productions.
Deadline reports that the book is being transformed into a feature film, with Bridge of Spies screenwriter Matt Charman writing the script, as part of the Sussexes’ ongoing deal with Netflix.
The story recounts the experiences of Easy Company, made up of Paras and the Royal Irish Rangers, who were tasked with defending a district in Helmand province during July 2006 amidst the Afghanistan conflict.
The book’s blurb reads: ‘In Helmand province in July 2006, Major Adam Jowett was given command of Easy Company, a hastily assembled and understrength unit of Paras and Royal Irish Rangers. Their mission was to hold the District Centre of Musa Qala at any cost. Easy Company found themselves in a ramshackle compound, cut off and heavily outnumbered by the Taliban in the town.
‘In No Way Out, Adam evokes the heat and chaos of battle as the Taliban hit Easy Company with wave after wave of brutal attack.”, reports the Mirror.
The account was written by Major Adam Jowett, who led the unit, and represents the latest film project for Harry and Meghan, whose agreement with the streaming giant was revised to a first-look deal last year.
This fresh venture will likely strike a chord with Harry, considering his ten-year military career. The prince undertook two tours of duty in Afghanistan, including a 10-week stint in Helmand province. His military service came to an end in 2015, according to the Express.
The Sussex duo have further Netflix projects in the pipeline. These include screen adaptations of Tracey Oliver’s The Wedding Date and Carley Fortune’s Meet Me At The Lake.
The publication also discloses that they’re executive-producing a “polo-themed” drama series for the platform, set in the “high-flying equestrian town” of Wellington, Florida. The script will be crafted by Teacup’s Francisca X.
