A Syrian teenager has been convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman in a portable toilet on Bournemouth seafront.
Mohammed Abdullah, 19, was found guilty following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court for the rape and assault by penetration of the woman in the early hours of July 6, 2025.
Judge Robert Pawson cautioned the defendant that he faces a prison sentence as he remanded him in custody until the sentencing hearing on July 3 and ordered a probation report to be prepared. He addressed Abdullah: “On the 5th to 6th July, having come down from London with a group of other young men, by unfortunate circumstances your path crossed (with the complainant).
“She had had far too much to drink, it was late at night, she was at the beachfront at Bournemouth and, on a whim, you decided to take advantage of that.
“You deliberately took her further up the beach to the Portaloos which, in my judgment on the evidence, you knew were there and knew they were open. You locked her in a Portaloo and you raped her.
“The sentence is to be decided on the 3rd July but it will inevitably involve immediate custody.”
Mark Eldridge, prosecuting, informed the trial that the woman had been out with a friend that night, initially in Charminster then moving on to Bar So in Bournemouth.
He stated that after consuming a “fair amount to drink”, she and her friend parted ways and the woman began walking home along the seafront.
There, she encountered the defendant who was with friends and who then offered to transport her home on his e-bike. They subsequently stopped at a portable toilet where Abdullah sexually assaulted her before raping her.
Mr Eldridge stated: “She was wriggling and trying to fight and then thought if she let it happen it would be quicker.” He further added: “The defendant kissed her aggressively and she pulled away but somehow got a burst lip.”
He mentioned that afterwards, Abdullah rode off while the woman “took her shoes off in order to run”.
She then sought assistance from passers-by, asking to use their phones to call her mother who she informed she had been raped before she contacted the police.
Mr Eldridge said one man who assisted her described her as “appearing distressed”.
Abdullah, who resides in West Drayton, Middlesex, arrived in the UK from Syria in 2023 and was granted permanent leave to remain under a family reunion scheme.
He had claimed the sex was “consensual” and the woman had wanted to hug and kiss him.
