Police are on the hunt for a man following a terrifying ‘rape’ assault that was caught on CCTV in broad daylight. The Metropolitan Police are appealing to a woman they believe was raped in south London to come forward after viewing the footage.

The force stated the attack took place outside Gaumont Place in Streatham at 5.30am on Tuesday, May 12. The incident wasn’t reported at the time but police were notified the next day and viewed CCTV footage of the assault.

An investigation has been initiated by detectives who are looking for a man described as black, of medium build and in his early 30s, reports MyLondon.

Detective Constable Charlie Codrington, leading the investigation, said: “We know the woman in this footage will be scared, but we urge her to contact the police.

“We are concerned for her wellbeing and officers are here to provide her with welfare, medical and trained support.”

He characterised it as a “horrifying incident which took place in broad daylight, close to a busy high street”.

The Met have released images of a man they wish to identify in relation to the incident.

“We have released images of a man we need to trace and would urge anyone who recognises him to contact us.

“If you have any further information about what happened, please come forward,” Codrington urged.
