Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has cited leaked Russian intelligence documents allegedly showing Vladimir Putin is plotting a NATO strike in the Baltics, with Belarus seen as the likely launchpad for an offensive
Leaked intelligence reports reveal that Vladimir Putin is actively planning an attack on NATO territory in the Baltics. The Russian leader intends to launch the assault from landlocked authoritarian ally Belarus, which could also serve as a base for strikes on key decision-making centres in Kyiv.
These allegations were made by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, placing Poland and Baltic states Lithuania and Latvia, both of which share borders with Belarus, in potential danger.
“Russia is considering plans for operations to the south and north of Belarusian territory – either against the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction in Ukraine or against one of the NATO countries directly from the territory of Belarus,” he stated.
The Suwalki Gap, a 40-mile wide corridor linking NATO members Poland and Lithuania and running between Russian and Belarusian territory, is viewed as the alliance’s most vulnerable point.
Both Lithuania and Latvia have strengthened their borders with Belarus and Russia.
Zelenskyy cautioned: “We continue to document Russia’s attempts to draw Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine.”
The Kyiv leader referenced leaked Russian intelligence and warned: “Ukraine will undoubtedly defend itself and its people if Alexander Lukashenko makes a mistake and decides to support this Russian intention as well.”
Confidential Russian documents reportedly list two dozen political and military facilities as targets, including Zelenskyy’s headquarters and a state dacha in the Kyiv region.
He cautioned Putin: “We will not surrender our land, our sovereignty, or our state.”
