Marcus Rashford transfer twist
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims Rashford has already agreed in principle to a three-year deal with Barcelona, but the terms need to be adjusted to finalise a permanent move.
The England international’s salary is reported to be 40% less than his earnings at United. Mundo Deportivo reports Rashford sees altering the three-year arrangement as his “only option” to remain in Spain.
It is outlined that stretching his contract to a five-year deal would prove financially advantageous for the club, as it would enable the Catalan outfit to spread the transfer fee across a lengthier timeframe.
Barcelona possess an option to make Rashford’s stay permanent for approximately £26million. The 28-year-old has registered eight goals and nine assists in 31 outings, helping Hansi Flick’s team clinch the league crown this campaign.
Nevertheless, the two clubs are yet to find common ground and have remained in talks over the previously agreed sum. The Catalan giants are reluctant to honour the £26m buy option, while United have no plans to reduce the asking price.
Man Utd contract agreement
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is poised to pen a one-year contract extension at United with Carrick’s approval, reports the Mirror.
The 40-year-old has operated as the club’s third-choice keeper since 2021, with his most recent competitive outing coming in February 2023.
Heaton started his career in United’s youth system and enjoyed fruitful stints elsewhere before returning to his boyhood side.
The former England international has also acted as a guiding influence for United’s new number one Senne Lammens this term.
The ex-Burnley ace’s decision to prolong his tenure at Old Trafford will be advantageous for United’s Champions League squad, as he qualifies as a homegrown player.
UEFA regulations stipulate that each club must have a quota of eight association-trained players, including at least four homegrown talents, in order to submit a complete 25-man squad list.
