Isak Andic, 71, founder of Mango fashion brand, died in December 2024 after falling around 500 feet down a cliff while hiking with his son Jonathan Andic, 45, near Barcelona
Police in north-eastern Spain have arrested the son of Isak Andic, the billionaire creator of Spanish fashion giant Mango, over allegations he was involved in his father’s death.
Mr Andic, 71, was on a hiking trip with his son in the mountains near Barcelona when he tragically plummeted about 500 feet down a cliff and died in December 2024. His son, Jonathan Andic, 45, was the sole witness to the incident.
An investigation was launched by the police but was subsequently closed a few weeks later. However, it was reopened in March 2025, and by October, authorities confirmed they were treating the death as a potential homicide.
Jonathan Andic was escorted to court facilities in Martorell, an eastern Spanish city where the case is under scrutiny, according to a spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, Mossos d’Esquadra.
The spokesperson added that the case is currently under a nondisclosure order. Jonathan Andic, the eldest of Isak Andic’s three offspring and one of his heirs, holds the position of vice chairman of the board at Mango, one of Spain’s largest retailers.
Isak Andic’s family relocated from Turkey to Spain during his childhood.
He inaugurated Mango’s inaugural store in Barcelona in 1984 and over the ensuing decades, played a pivotal role in transforming Mango into one of Europe’s top fast-fashion brands.
Mango boasts a global presence with 2,900 stores across 120 markets worldwide. The fashion conglomerate’s revenue soared to a record-breaking nearly €3.8 billion in 2025, marking an 11% increase from the previous year.
