Donald Trump has been described as a “grandpa who doesn’t want to grow up” as Russian newspapers poke fun at his bizarre social media posts.

The US President is having a difficult time domestically with rising prices and an impasse in the Middle East conflict – and now he is also being ridiculed by America’s geopolitical opponents.

His often outlandish posts on Truth Social, where he has even posted an image portraying himself as Jesus Christ, have now been mocked in the Russia press. Just one year ago the same newspapers were building him up as a strong leader who needed to be respected – but they now take a very different tone.

Moskovsky Komsomolets – a Moscow-based daily newspaper with a circulation approaching one million – recently featured some of his social media posts and described him as a child who claims he’s winning “when he really loses”. The article was shared on X by the BBC’s Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg.

It read: “He loves Cola, hamburgers, boasts that he’s the strongest and always wins even when he really loses. He is convinced that he is unique, gets easily carried away with new ‘toys’ and posts pictures of himself online in heroic poses.

“A typical teenager with no self-awareness. But this teenager as you’ve guessed is Donald Trump, too much in the world depends on the US, so when a major power like this is run by a grandpa who doesn’t want to grow up, nothing good will come of it.”

Trump considers himself an effective dealmaker above all else, but appears to have yet again hit a wall, this time with Iran as his tough talk, threats and even military action have not moved Tehran from its long-established positions.

With shifting goals that make it difficult to judge the status of the US effort, Trump and his top aides insist America has already won the war and that Iran is ready to reach an agreement in the wake of escalating US threats during a tenuous ceasefire.

But Trump once again backed down this week, saying he had put plans for an imminent resumption of attacks on hold at the request of Gulf Arab states because “serious negotiations are now taking place, and that, in their opinion, as Great Leaders and Allies, a Deal will be made, which will be very acceptable to the United States of America, as well as all Countries in the Middle East, and beyond.”
