GB News interrupted a segment about NASA and HS2 to broadcast live from Downing Street, as Larry the Cat was seen basking outside in the sunshine. Providing the latest update to viewers, presenter Tom Harwood explained: “We’re at Downing Street, and there is Larry the Cat – live, relaxing in the first day of sunshine that Downing Street has seen in, frankly, two weeks.”

His co-presenter Emily Carver questioned: “Sorry, what’s this got to do with NASA and HS2?” as Harwood confessed: “Literally nothing. Look, it’s rare that we see such a relaxed Larry, just lying back there, up against the curb-side in Downing Street. Larry was born in 2007, which means he’s 19 years old.

“He became Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office under David Cameron’s premiership, so he’s survived through David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer..”

He continued: “He could be in for his seventh prime minister this summer.”

Carver pondered: “He’s seen it all before, hasn’t he? Look, someone’s rudely standing in front of him. Someone’s just standing there, getting in the way of our beautiful live broadcast.”

Both presenters jested they needed to tell the man to “get out of the way”, before Carver remarked: “He’s seen it all before, nothing can surprise him in the world of politics.”, reports the Express.

“Will Keir Starmer still be our prime minister in a few months’ time? Larry doesn’t know. Does he care?” Harwood reflected: “But Larry has been the single longest-serving appointment in the British government, I think. He’s the same age as the iPhone.”

It comes as Prime Minister Keir Starmer will confront his first Commons interrogation since his health secretary’s departure and Andy Burnham’s by-election candidacy heaped additional strain on his leadership today.

Starmer will face questioning from Kemi Badenoch and fellow MPs, while former cabinet minister Wes Streeting was also anticipated to deliver a resignation address in the chamber on Wednesday.

His midday clash with the Opposition leader marks the first since Parliament reconvened following the May polls that witnessed Labour endure devastating defeats and sparked growing demands for Sir Keir to step down.
