A British TikToker has left people stunned after revealing what the little holes on washing pegs are actually designed for in a viral video
With Britain finally heating up, households across the country are eagerly racing outside to get their laundry draped over the washing line. But one eagle-eyed bloke making the most of the sunshine has completely baffled the internet after spotting a “hidden” design feature on his everyday clothes pegs.
TikTok user @jpee074 left viewers scratching their heads after uploading a video demonstrating exactly how he attaches his garments to the line – and people are genuinely stunned.
While laundry day might sound like a total snooze-fest, the viral clip has racked up a staggering one million views, triggering an absolute meltdown in the comments section from amazed viewers across the globe.
It turns out the British content creator has stumbled upon a secret purpose for the tiny gaps underneath the main clamp of the peg.
Instead of clipping the peg directly over the top of the line, he threads the washing line straight through the hole.
He wrote: “I was today years old when I found out I had been pegging wrong all these years. The little holes are for the line!” “Today years old…. Life changing!!!!” he added in the video caption.
The simple hack caused an immediate reaction online, with thousands of users admitting they had spent decades completely oblivious to the design. The comments section quickly exploded with disbelief.
One person wrote: “Are you kidding me? Now I’m even more excited to hang my washing out tomorrow.” The TikToker replied: “I can’t believe that 300k people will hang their washing differently from now on!”
Another added: “Omg! I’m 55 and just found out!” Someone else said: “Stop it. I’ve been doing it wrong all these years?” A fourth posted: “I’m 32 and never knew this till now.”
As the video continued to blow up, other savvy cleaners chimed in with their own top-tier advice for speeding up the drying process during the summer heatwave.
One clever commenter suggested abandoning traditional pegging altogether for top garments: “T-shirts and jumpers on hangers! Jeans and trousers by the belt loops so you don’t get marks on the legs from the pegs once they have dried! Handy to have a sock hanger to less spade.”
Another agreed with the time-saving hanger trick, adding: “I put mine on clothes hangers first then peg the clothes hangers to the line so they don’t move. Once you take them off they’re already ready for the wardrobe.”
Meanwhile, a third traditionalist offered a tip to avoid ruining your favourite outfits, writing: “Supposed to peg on the seams and trousers always upside down.”
