Arsenal fans have brutally mocked Manchester City and their supporters with bottle taunts during the drinks break of the Premier League champions trip to Selhurst Park
Arsenal fans brutally mocked Manchester City and their supporters as they fired back with their own bottle taunts during the champions’ trip to Crystal Palace.
Mikel Arteta’s side finally put to bed their ‘bottle’ tag as they prepare to get their hands on the Premier League title today after three consecutive second place finishes. The Gunners’ 22-year wait for the title was ended in midweek when Manchester City were unable to beat Bournemouth.
Arsenal have previously faced ridicule for supposedly lacking the psychological fortitude to become champions, with a City supporter famously spotted sipping from a bottle last month to symbolise that the Gunners were cracking under pressure.
In a bid to rattle the Arsenal fanbase before their crunch title clash last month, which Guardiola’s side won, City fans placed Arsenal-branded bottles outside the stadium. During the build-up to the game, the bottles were seen all around the outside of the stadium, with one picture seeing one seller call the water “Arsenal tears”.
And Gunners fans couldn’t wait to rub their triumph in City’s face as two fans were spotted in the crowd at Selhurst Park during the drinks break, knocking back a bottle with the badge of their title rivals on it.
The clip was posted to social media and fans were quick to react to the stunt, one user said: “We won’t hear the end of it.” A second called them “cringe”, while another vented: “Not an original thought in their heads. Quite sad really, especially when they fail to understand they are still the true “Bottle Jobs” of the PL, it’ll take more than one title to shake off that label.”
Arsenal’s players also got in on the act when Hincapie seemingly hinted that City are the ones who have faltered after being captured drinking from an Arsenal bottle during their title festivities on Tuesday.
Arteta named a heavily rotated side to face Palace with the likes of Gabriel, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice dropped to the bench. While David Raya, Myles Lewis-Skelly, William Saliba and Leandro Trossard were not named in the squad.
